I was the lucky winner of an A1 Coaching competition and I got a month of free coaching, during which I was under the watchful cyber eye of Tom Daly, one of the A1 Coaching team.
I am a leisure rider, relatively new to the sport, but in decent physical shape and with ambition to do a sportive this year, and maybe racing if that goes well.
After filling in a lengthy questionnaire Tom constructed a fairly intense training schedule for me. This was put up on the TrainingPeaks website so that we could both keep track of the programme and my feedback.
Tom was always on hand to clarify any points via email, and he was very prompt at getting back to me.
The programme consisted of road work and indoor training, and also dealt with off-bike matters such as strength conditioning, stretching and diet.
Tom also set out the basic principles of periodization and goal setting.
Workouts were progressively more difficult with Tom tailoring the workouts if necessary from my feedback. However, this was not usually required as the workouts were challenging but achievable.
By the end of the month the length and intensity of my training had increased noticeably. I also found my motivation levels had increased along with my fitness.
Overall I very much enjoyed the structured approach to training that A1 Coaching gave me. I would highly recommend A1 Coaching and I would like to say thanks to A1 Coaching and Tom Daly in particular.
